WALKEN REVIEW
Walken is a blockchain game on the Solana network (that's a crypto currency) that combines healthy lifestyle, gaming, and cryptocurrency. We have been playing it for quite some time now. In Walken, players own NFT game characters called CAThletes and compete in running disciplines to earn rewards. The game incentivizes physical activity by converting steps walked in real life into in-game currency called Gems, which can be used to level up CAThletes and participate in various in-game activities.
Players can earn $WLKN tokens, the native token of the Walken ecosystem, by winning competitions. The more a player walks, the stronger their CAThlete becomes, leading to higher earnings and better performance in the game. Walken aims to promote a healthy lifestyle while providing a fun and engaging gaming experience. There are also other Walken based gaming apps like "Walken Runner", "Walken Blocks" and "Walken CATHlete Blast"s that allow you to earn chests that contain real $WLKN tokens! That's the idea anyway, so what's not to like. Read our thoughts below to find out.
A WALKEN THE PARK?
This App takes a little while to get going. Before you can do anything you need to get your self your CAThletes. These CAThletes need to be levelled up. This takes time, gems and, more importantly, actual $WLKN tokens (Which of course you could buy.... but we here at Cash Geeks are utterly against that sort of thing). Your CAThlete doesn't become a real, genuine "NFT" until it reaches level 6. This can take time. You can then breed CAThletes, fuse them or buy extra ones on the open market! You can buy them fancy clothes to boost their "Top Trump" (Not that "Trump") like powers. Once you get going and have a few CAThletes you can star to take part in competitions and earn more precious tokens, When it first started it was a lot of fun, it was easy to earn $WLKN in duels, actual walking earned you lots of GEMS to level up, you could get a good rank and the Walken universe seemed to be a great place to be and have real potential.
Sadly, as time has passed, it has become more and more difficult to engage and take part in the "in app competitions". The walking stopped earning us GEMS due to buggy performance of the App, our rank dropped to zero, despite us walking 10,000 Steps a day. Worse than that, the main games only became winnable, or even available, for seeming elite users.......You need to earn "mystberries" to even enter competitions (yet another pretend "in game currency" - too complicated, too many hoops to jump through!). It all was getting a bit much.
"The CAThlete Games" for instance have been forever out of our reach as long time Walken fans, requiring at least 5 level 6 CAThletes. When we finally met the criteria, it turned out that our CAThletes needed "Rainbow eyes"...what? Rainbow eyes? At this point there was a lot of swearing in the Cash Geeks office, as to obtain Rainbow Eyes seemed to require a miracle and also lots of virtual money......! An impossible dream. So we gave up.
Other in app games are available. But, unless you have invested time and energy obsessively, it is really difficult to win these competitions. As a result you lose faith in the main app, and our use of it is declining day by day, almost to zero.... but don't give up just yet - there are other ways to earn $WLKN tokens!
WALKEN GAMES
Other games in the WLKN universe, like Walken Runner and Walken CAThlete Blast, exist separatley and complement the main app by offering diverse gameplay and additional ways to earn $WLKN tokens. This gives us a chance to earn actual $WLKN tokens, which remember Cash Geeks, can be turned into real money. Some games work really well, like Walken Runner and Walken Blocks. The games aren't thrilling but they do allow you to collect chests and open them and earn "mystberries" and real $WLKN tokens.
Unfortunately ones like CAThlete Blast and Walken Speed Crime: Street racing are buggy and frustrating and difficult to earn from (or perhaps we are just not very good at them). We like them!
WALKEN : STILL HAVING A BLAST?
Opinions on Walken are quite mixed. Some users appreciate the concept of combining fitness with gaming and crypto, enjoying the unique experience of earning rewards through physical activity. However, there are several negative reviews highlighting issues such as account suspensions without clear reasons, poor customer support, and concerns about the transparency of in-game mechanics. The good news is, that Walken is not a scam. The crypto earned can be exchanged and their is a genuine market where you can buy and indeed sell your CAThletes when they reach NFT status.
Many users have expressed frustration with the game's "lootbox system", the perceived lack of fairness in rewards and the constantly moving goal posts to take part in competitions in apps. Additionally, some have reported being blocked on social media platforms for voicing their concerns. Whoops, that could be us before we know it. We aren't scared.
It seems that while the idea behind Walken is appealing, there are significant areas for improvement in terms of user experience and support, faults in apps an a general sense of fair play. This is a shame, as we loved it at the start. How have they managed to mess it up so badly.... perhaps if they went back to those simpler times, they would have a rebirth and attract disgruntled people like us back again? Just an idea,....
CASH GEEKS: Reaching out: We will continually update our reviews as things change for better or for worse. Walken could be so good! Just make it simple again!
